Texas Real Estate Deals
Mark Dotzour is Chief Economist and Director of Research at Texas A & M Real Estate Center. Mark has tallied the number homes listed for sale in Texas in March 2013 and March 2014. In most major cities in Texas there are fewer homes for sale this year than last:
Mark expects home prices to go up given that housing inventories are generally down in Texas. There are areas of Texas where inventories are up however the amount of inventory is only sufficient for a few months, not the 6.5 months of inventory that is typical of a more stable market.
Given the tightness of the real estate market for homes in Texas generally, there are many opportunities in real estate for housing developers and real estate investors. According to Dotzour, "The No. 1 economic challenge for Texas going forward is if we don’t start building more homes and putting more subdivisions on the ground, the prices of housing will get so expensive that employers will no longer be able to attract workers".
